Evaluation of Serum y-Glutamyltransferase by Electrofocusing, and Variations in lsoform Patterns

چکیده
Serum y-glutamyltransferase (EC 2.3.2.2) showed microheterogeneity on electrofocusing, owing to variations in sialic acid content. We investigated the isoform patterns of papaintreated serum samples on agarose gels containing nonionic detergent and ampholytes in the low pH range. Serum from cases of cholestasis show seven bands with y-glutamyltransferase activity. These same bands were also found in liver tissue similarly treated, and they had p1 values ranging from 3.8 to 4.2. Papain-treated sera that also had been neuraminidase digested showed only a single band, still enzymatically active and with a p1of 5.9. Increased y-glutamyltransferase in serum as a result of alcohol abuse was combined with a abnormally high degree of sialylation of the enzyme, giving more anodal isoforms. The decline in the concentration of this enzyme dunng several weeks of abstinence was accompanied by a gradual decrease in y.glutamyltransferase sialylation and the appearance of more cathodal fractions.

Relationships of Serum Level of High- Sensitivity C- Reactive Protein (hs- CRP) and White Blood Cell (WBC) Count with Gamma- Glutamyltransferase among Iranian Healthy Adults
Background & Objective: There are many common infections and inflammations among people over the world. This demands an affordable and reliable test with high sensitivity/specificity to predict or confirm the diagnosis of such cases in routinely clinical practice. In the present study, we aimed to find any potential correlation between serum levels of GGT and CRP- Q and/or hs- CRP and ...
متن کاملO-1: Evaluation of Ethnic Patterns of Y Chromosome Microdeletions in Iranian Infertile Men with Azoospermia/Severe Oligospermia Referred to Royan Institute
Background: Microdeletions of the long arm of the chromosome Y are the most common molecular genetic cause of severe infertility in men which affect three regions of AZFa, AZFb and AZFc (Azoospermia factor). These regions contain various genes involved in spermatogenesis. The effect of ethnicity on the patterns of Y chromosome microdeletions has not been extensively studied, particulary in Iran...

متن کاملSeparation of the proteins of cerebrospinal fluid using gel electrofocusing followed by electrophoresis.
The technique previously applied to serum can, with minor modifications, be applied to cerebrospinal fluid. Good protein patterns have been obtained and similarities as well as differences have been demonstrated between cerebrospinal fluid and serum. The patterns obtained should prove useful in neurological diagnosis.
متن کاملA simple, solid-phase iodine-125 radioimmunoassay for theophylline.
The activity of y-glutamyltransferase (EC 2.3.2.2) is measured on the DuPont aca by an adaptation of the Szasz procedure ;-y-glutamyl-p-nitroanilide is transferred to glycylglycine, thereby releasing p-nitroaniline, which is measured at 405 nm. I have noticed low glutamyltransfer-ase activity in patients with cholestasis wherealkaline phosphate (EC 3.1.3.1) is increased, total bilirubin> 100 mg...
